2010 Committee

Dwayne & Shelley Low
When Dwayne was diagnosed with Parkinsons over 4 years ago we both had a real passion to work towards finding a cure and to make a difference. Even though we were apprehensive when Travis suggested we try an event like this we supported him. We were very proud of his drive and determination to make an event like this happen. Last year was such a great success, not only in the funds that we were able to donate to the Parkinsons Superwalk but in the event that brought so many together to have a great time working towards a cause that meant so much to us, the response was overwhelming. We are very excited about the event once again this year and are very  thankful to have the support of an amazing committee that is working so hard to make this happen.

Dwayne and I have been married for 30 years in August and are blessed with three children Trina, Chelsea, Travis, our son in law Cameron and adorable grandson James. Dwayne has been employed at SaskPower for 31 years and Shelley at the Credit Union for 22 years. We realized with Dwayne's diagnoses that life is precious and no one knows what tomorrow might bring. So our newest moto is to live each day to the fullest.

Travis Low
Travis' grandfather fought with Parkinson's for over 15 years and his father, Dwayne was diagnosed over 4 years ago. After a few years of pledging for the Superwalk for Parkinson's, Travis thought there had to be a more efficient way to both raise funds and create awareness for Parkinson's disease. That's how Lows in Motion was born.

Travis has recently completed his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan. After completing his degree, Travis decided to treat himself to a 3 month trip across SouthEast Asia. It was an experience of a lifetime! Now back in Canada, Travis enjoys spending time with his friends and family at the lake fishing and camping as well as fitting in as many games of golf and hockey as he can.

Sarah Angus
My name is Sarah Angus and I became interested in helping out with the annual Lows in Motion Parkinson's walk as a result of a long family friendship that my family has with the Lows. We have known Dwayne and Shelley and their kid's for many years and knew them prior to the onset of Parkinson's.

While in university I had a project to design a living space for someone that would require a modified home to accommodate their special needs and I chose to incorporate universal design for a person with Parkinson's because of my connection to the Lows.  Through my research on designing such a home I discovered things about the disease and how it affects the person and their quality of life.

This knowledge and my personal connection to the Low's is the reason I am involved and continue to be active on the ‘Low's in Motion' team to raise money for Parkinson's disease.  My role in the annual event is to design and create the floor space of the event to bring it to a creative and inviting venue for those attending.

I am currently finishing my degree in Interior Design at Mount Royal University in Calgary and would like to further pursue my Masters in Architecture in the future. My hobbies are camping, running, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Evan Drisner
Evan became involved with Lows in Motion really at its very raw beginning. His good friend Travis Low approached him one day suggesting the idea that has now become Lows in Motion. Being fairly naive to what this would in tale but excited to help his friends vision come to fruition he volunteered to be the musical entertainment for the first ever Lows in Motion in Warman. After realizing what he had committed to he quickly gathered a band together and learned over 35 songs in 3 weeks, just in time for the first ever Lows in Motion. Sharing the same community focus as Travis and having a desire to help the Low family in their quest for a cure, Evan has been involved ever since.

Evan and his wife of 10 years Danielle have two boys (5 yrs and 2 yrs) and feel it is important to show them that getting involved and making a difference in people's lives is important! When he's not working as a Division Manager at NuFab Building Products, or at his church you'll probably find him relaxing with his family at home or on the Okanagan Lake.

Keith Moen
Keith Moen is the Executive Director of the NSBA (North Saskatoon Business Association). He is married to Lenore and is the father of Kassy, Colton and Connor. Lows in Motion is important to Keith because his Dad, Russ Moen, battled Parkinson's Disease for 10 years until his passing in 2009.

Derek Cordes
Derek is cousins with Travis and has been very close to the Low family all his life. He has seen the effect the disease has taken on his uncle and the stress it has put on the whole family. When the event was first mentioned, Derek immediately took interest in being a part of the committee and helping his uncle and cousin help find a cure.

Outside of the committee Derek is involved in many things such as baseball, slopitch, hockey and helping on his family farm in Rosetown. In the fall, Derek will be attending the Manitoba Emergency Services College where he will be training and studying to become a  fire fighter/paramedic.

Kurt, Sue and Caty Williams
Residents of Saskatoon, The Williams family became involved with Lows in Motion after attending the event in 2009.

They share a similar story with Travis Low and his family; Kurt's father Richard has Parkinson's and Kurt was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2007.  As a family they have always been involved in supporting local charitable organizations but Low's in motion holds a deeply personal meaning for them.

Kurt is a physician at royal university hospital and spends what little spare time he has golfing and skiing.

Sue is Manager of Development at the Mendel Art Gallery and is famous among friends and family for her amazing cooking and excellent party planning.

Caty is a student at the University of Saskatchewan and hopes to become a Cosmetology teacher in the high school system as she already has her cosmetology license and works part time as a make up artist at MAC cosmetics.  She lives with her boyfriend Benson and their dog Molly.

Daniel Evans
Daniel has recently completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Saskatchewan and is now in the process of completing the Canadian Securities Course. Daniel and Travis became good friends over the past few years while attending University together. Daniel has seen the hard work and dedication Travis has put into the event and the true passion he has to make Low's in Motion a continued success. This motivation made Daniel want to become involved with the committee and he is now responsible for the accounting functions for Low's In Motion.

Outside of the committee Daniel likes spending time with family and friends, playing hockey, golf and tennis, and spending time at the lake.

Noelle Tourney

Noelle recently completed her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition at the University of Saskatchewan and has completed internships with the State University of New York and the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region. Soon to be a Registered Dietitian (candidate), Noelle is thrilled to be back in Saskatoon to begin her private consulting practice where she will be able to guide others toward healthier, more balanced and active lifestyles.

Besides work, Noelle loves being outside and staying active while also spending time with her friends and family. Noelle's aunt, Penny Gwillim, was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2007; since then Noelle has felt the need to support such a truly worthy cause. After speaking with Travis, Noelle found she shared the same passion for raising awareness about Parkinson's as the Lows in Motion team and is honoured and excited to be working with them this year.

Paula Haubrich

Paula is a friend of Travis', and became involved in Lows In Motion after attending last year's event and wanting to help grow this event and support the fight against Parkinson's. She is currently working in Human Resources at SaskEnergy in Regina, but will be taking a timeout from work come September to take care of a new baby.

One of her passions is communicating with others and doing her part to make life a little easier and more enjoyable for those around her. Getting involved in the community and helping out friends is one of the best ways she has found to do that.

Supporting and contributing to this event is special for Paula. Having lost her own father in January to complications from an illness, she wants nothing more than to help improve the health and quality of life of those that are touched by any health struggle. She looks forward to being involved with Lows In Motion every year, and is thankful for the opportunity that she has had to get involved with this great cause. Thank you Travis and the Low Family!

Shawna O'Driscoll

My name is Shawna O'Driscoll and I graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelors Degree in Commerce. After university I decided to go travelling around Europe, what was supposed to be a couple of months of wandering ended up being a year, with quite the working experience in Ireland! After being gone for that amount of time I decided it was time to come home and see friends and family! I have since settled back in Saskatoon and am a Financial Service Representative at Conexus Credit Union.

I have known Travis for quite sometime now and when I heard he was starting a fundraiser to raise money for Parkinson, in honour of his Dad I wanted to help. Unfortunately, I missed the first "Low's in Motion" but still heard of what a good job everyone did. When I got home in and saw what an amazing fundraiser Travis, his family and the rest of the Committee had put on, I couldn't help but want to be a part of it! I told Travis I would like to help out where ever he needed me, and I am now happy to be able to do that.

Annette Michaud

My name is Annette Michaud. I graduated from SIAST in Recreation and Tourism Management last april. For the past few years I have been involved in fundraising activities to benefit a group of children in Haiti, a result of my volunteer experience in Jacmel after it's devastating earthquake. I have known Travis for 7 great years and couldn't wait to be a part of the team for my second year. I have recently returned from South East Asia and I was very excited to hear there was room for me back on the team. I am so glad to have been given this opportunity to help fundraise once again.
